Never has there been a period in time that the world was free of the plight it normally suffers from. These problems are the very same issues that help us grow and develop new ways of handling them. Ironically, the more modernized the world becomes, the worse these problems get.

The most notable of the problems in the world has to be that of hunger. World Hunger estimated that in 2010, 925 million people had access to little or no food. The highest numbers came from Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. There were significantly less people who were hungry in developed countries. The main reason that so many people are hungry is linked to yet another problem in the world, poverty. Anyone attempting to count how many people are living below the poverty line, will probably fall short a few million. The current figure of the poverty threshold stands at $1.25 a day. Anyone earning less than that figure is considered to be among the 2 billion people considered to be poor.

Poverty brings out yet another problem, healthcare. The number of people who cannot access adequate health facilities is immeasurable. This figure is substantially higher in developing nations than in developed countries. Without access to healthcare, the number of fatalities increases. To counter this effect, the people living in developing countries give birth to more children since they are highly valued. This will in turn lead into another problem in facing the world, overpopulation.

The world population has officially passed the 7 billion mark. Yet, the amount of resources capable of sustaining this massive population, have pretty much remained stagnant over the last few years. The only way to feed new members of our society is by taking a little food from our plates and giving it to them. Usually these rations come from the plates of their fellow poverty stricken kinsmen.

The final problem that has constantly been attacking the world is the economic crisis. This is a problem that came up from our own greed of money. Our inability to waiver the loans we have given to each other makes us become indebted to each other. Usually, only a select few persons are responsible for causing such economic meltdowns. You can’t really put blame on them however, since many of us buy things which we don’t need. When the loans need to be repaid and the debt collector turns up, all hell breaks loose and so the economy crumbles under the weight of our own greed. Yet, it is simply amazing that most of these problems in the world would be resolved if we lived within our own means.

Problems in the World

There are varied problems in the world today, going through the entire plethora of issues that mankind has to combat on a daily basis is an exercise that can be a draining experience to no end. The article attempts at listing the problems in the world from a postmodern perspective, specifically from Gadamers philosophy. Accordingly, the problems of the world are as follows:

Pollution: Specifically pollution involves the defilement of the earths resources (air, water, sound, et al) This defilement has for instance seen the use of aerosol sprays deplete the ozone layer and the burning of fossil fuels promote the green house effect.

Secondly, is the issue of the rapid use of non-renewable sources of energy. Specifically the use fossil-based fuels without regard to future considerations regarding its renew ability. To mankind’s credit however, this problem is being addressed with interest in renewable sources of energy e.g. solar power and wind power being highlighted.

Thirdly, is the issue of the earth’s resources being outstripped by her population. Specifically is the issue of food that sees more than half of the world populace go to bed on a hungry stomach every night. This reality echoes true of the Malthusian theory and its time the world pondered on this dynamic. This ranks as one of the major problems in the world.

Fourth, is the issue of unequal distribution of the worlds financial resources with this imbalance aptly captured in the voting power in the IMF. How Europe and N. America, that represent less than 12% of the populace of the world, can have a voting right in excess of 50%, whilst Asia that holds 50% of the worlds populace ranks lower aptly represents this problem.

Fifth, is the issue of the power that Multinational wield over states. This odious influence has seen some weak states forced to pursue faulty policies that are designed to benefit these entities at the expense of these weak states.

Sixth, are the so-called self-debasing problems, the lack of love for fellow men – racism, sexism, fundamentalism, bigotry et al. All the above signal a narrowness of the mind that manifests itself in such discriminatory laws such as apartheid or even ethnic pogroms that rogue states tend to pursue as policies.

Lastly, is the issue of Nuclear weapons that states wield in the illusion that they are strengthening security whilst in reality they are actually stepping over the abyss of peace. This in summary are but some of the myriad of problems in the world that man has to contend with.
